Henderson County commissioners approved the sale of the Pardee Care Center to Hendersonville Physicians and Associates today.

The approval clears the final hurdle for the 130-bed nursing and rehabilitation center to be sold to the local physicians and investors and an Ohio-based corporation.

Hendersonville Physicians offered $8.45 million for the center on the campus of Blue Ridge Community College.

The sale required the approval of commissioners because the county owns the property.

The Pardee board chose Hendersonville Physicians as the buyer Tuesday. It also rejected an offer from Lutheran Services for the Aging, a Salisbury-based not-for-profit affiliated with the Lutheran Church. The Pardee board rejected the offer because it did not meet upset bid requirements.

County Attorney Russell Burrell said he reviewed the offer and found it did not meet the qualifications.

“If it was only the property, it would have been a proper upset bid,” Burrell said.

He said the sale included other assets like the hospital beds and equipment.
