After only one year at the helm, Blue Ridge Community College baseball coach Brandon LaDuc resigned earlier this year to take a coaching position in Tennessee. On Wednesday, his replacement was announced, and it's a familiar one.

Dana Cyrus, who joined the coaching staff at Blue Ridge in January, was promoted to head coach on Wednesday, BRCC President Dr. Molly Parkhill announced.

Cyrus has more than 10 years of coaching experience at different levels including select travel and summer college teams. Coach Cyrus has been active with hosting showcases, sponsoring tournaments and player development and promotions since 2001.

He is also a consultant to several Major League Baseball scouts and specializes in recruiting.

Cyrus is just the third coach in the program's seven-year history. LaDuc replaced Damon Towe, who resigned when the 2007 season ended after he was involved in controversial activities at the college involving his program's finances.

In his first year with the Bears, LaDuc led the team to a 21-22 record.
