Fletcher BMW Pro-Am kicks off today at Kenmure

It’s that time of year again. The Fletcher BMW Scholarship Pro-Am kicks off at 10 a.m. today at Kenmure Country Club.
This year, there are 30 teams competing for more than $7,000. Thanks to continued sponsorship by Fletcher BMW and others, this purse is nearly $5,000 more than last year.
“We are really happy that we have this many teams competing this year,” Jay King, head golf pro from Kenmure said. “We do not have a full field this year but I think it will still be a good tournament.”
Every year, the pro-am raises money so local professionals can continue their education in the PGA of America. The program prepares golfers to become PGA members and further their professional golfing careers.
The format of the tournament will be teams of three; one professional and two amateurs.
When predicting a winner, King is torn between several repeat players.
“Jeffrey Peck and Scott Tuttle will be the top two contenders,” King said. “They do play well in this event. However, the entire field will give them a run for their money this year.”
Peck won the tournament for two years straight before last years’ competition.
Other local players include Mike Steele and Steve Dewitt.
Now that all the preparation is done, King says he can just enjoy playing golf today.
“Our golf course superintendent, Josh Laughridge, and the rest of the staff did a great job of getting this course in shape for the tournament.”
