SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a Spartanburg man while breaking into his home.
The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reports 35-year-old Howard Lee Sims showed no emotion Thursday as he was found guilty of murder and first-degree burglary.
Prosecutors say Sims stabbed 56-year-old John Wayne Lammers 16 times in June 2007 with a knife he had stolen in a previous burglary at the home.
An expert testified that Lammers' DNA was in blood found on Sims' shoes and clothes when he was arrested.
Sims' attorney presented no witnesses and Sims said nothing after he was convicted.
Sims' criminal record includes convictions aggravated assault and battery and armed robbery.
